Diesel Engines which were designed and built to serve for thousands of working hours without missing a beat and without asking for much.
Over twenty, thirty and more years these engines have seen it all. From being pampered, to being neglected to being almost forgotten. Now they are slow, they don't pull anymore and they drink and smoke. The Diesel Train, the Ocean Vessel, the Power Station on the Island - declared redundant, too expensive to run - not efficient enough. Why?

Well, for many years hard working engines were maintained to work hard, not to work efficiently.
Fuel injectors and fuel pumps were maintained and serviced in the time honored fashion of pulling everything apart, left on the floor for a while and then put back together with whatever was handy.

It worked, hard(ly) enough - a tweak on the timing here, a tweak on the crank there, maybe a hurry up on the turbo and 3/4 of the power was re-instated. Good Enough? Certainly Not!
